Residents at each of SMB’s six homes have an individualized behavior plan that includes life goals such as personal hygiene, cleaning skills, assigned household chores and work experience.  In addition, we work with other community agencies such as Ability Building Center to match residents with jobs as their abilities allow. 

The live-in staff at each home schedules weekly group meetings, similar to a family council meeting, where residents are able to share their ideas, opinions and feelings about their experiences in the home. These meetings build a sense of community among the residents and provide time to plan the schedule for the house for the next week.  This kind of planning is important in that it creates an element of predictability and routine for our residents.

Because recreation and social activities are an important part of a well-balanced program, we have a Recreation Director who plans and works with clients for individual activities and coordinates all weekend, holiday and group activities. There are activities planned for evenings as well as an activity at each home every Saturday, such as a movie night or game night.

SMB Homes has six 4-person, Rule 203 licensed adult foster care homes. These homes have been selected for their location and uniqueness. They are all located in safe, quiet residential neighborhoods in Rochester, MN so that we can provide the highest levels of community integration and independence. Our trained staff helps each resident develop a care plan with personal goals designed around our five key growth areas: physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual. Each home provides 24-staffing and two of the homes are fully wheel chair accessible.

• Free YMCA membership for each resident, with group trips going three times a week with accompanying support staff
